We do not come from farming families and grew up in mostly urban areas with an understanding of food that many people did, and still do. That food comes from a supermarket and the food that is there is what you get - packaged in plastic and cardboard with full color marketing - especially eggs and meat. We feel strongly that, as consumers, we should have options about what we eat and where it comes from - choices inform us and give us power and connect us to our local community in a lot of ways. It's a big part of the reason we're farming in the first place. If you've made it to our website then you most likely go to farmer's markets or farm stands, barter with neighbors or have your own homestead or kitchen garden. The long and the short of it is:
Know your farmer and you can know your food, your food's food, the land it's grown on, how it lives, and how it's slaughtered.
At Orange Star Farm we aim to grow everything from the plant and animal kingdom with as minimal impact to the land and environment as possible with the intent to grow wholesome, intentionally grown food that tastes delicious. We will be offering pasture raised duck and chicken eggs in the fall of 2016 and will have pastured duck available for sale off the farm in limited quantities. If you are interested in ordering from or have questions for us use the contact button above (the envelope in the upper right corner) to let us know. The welfare of the animals we care for here on the farm is a primary concern. If you have questions, just ask! Talking about food is one of the things we will never get tired of.
